Thank you to everyone who has been stash-busting along with me these past years, remember it all started here
I have decided that for me the stash-busting has got to continue and I hope that you will all join me again, we did really well last year but how many of us actually managed to bust it all, I fear it's an on going process and we need to encourage one another to keep it up.
As long as you are busting your stash then you can be a happy Stashaholic the secret is to keep those stash mountains under control.
If you want to join in
I have decided that for me the stash-busting has got to continue and I hope that you will all join me again, we did really well last year but how many of us actually managed to bust it all, I fear it's an on going process and we need to encourage one another to keep it up.
Let me define just what we are dealing with here.
Stash
Stash
- Any yarn which you have in your possession can be classed as being part of your stash.
- Stash yarn has a life of it's own, it jumps into your basket when you go shopping and you arrive home not having a clue how it got there.
- Stash yarn multiplies all of it's own accord and loves getting tangled and messy.
- Stash can also consist of fabric, embroidery floss in fact anything that feeds your hobby.
Stashaholic
If you are the type of person who always buys wool/fabric for a specific purpose and then uses it all up immediately (how do you do that?!) then you can quite safely say you are not a Stashaholic and you don't need to join this challenge but for everyone else WE NEED EACH OTHER!!
- A Stashaholic is someone who can't walk past a yarn/fabric shop without going in and once in there can't leave without buying some, even if said person, (I know male Stashaholics too!) doesn't need any more or hasn't a clue what they are going to do with it.
- Stashaholic's think they can never have enough.
- A Stashaholic will tell people they want yarn/fabric for their Birthday or for Christmas even though they haven't a clue where they will put it once they get it.
- A stashaholics home has yarn/fabric lying all over the place and unfinished projects scattered here and there, the usual excuse is, 'I like to have a few things on the go so I don't get bored'.
- A stashaholics home has bits of wool/fabric/thread trailing all over the floor dare I say it...sometime even in the bathroom! well it does tend to cling to your clothes :)
The first step towards a cure is admitting that you are indeed a Stashaholic so do any of the above apply to you?
If you are the type of person who always buys wool/fabric for a specific purpose and then uses it all up immediately (how do you do that?!) then you can quite safely say you are not a Stashaholic and you don't need to join this challenge but for everyone else WE NEED EACH OTHER!!
So the challenge is to use up what we have before buying any more, however if you have a special project in mind just buy enough yarn for that project so that there's nothing left to add to your stash.
As long as you are busting your stash then you can be a happy Stashaholic the secret is to keep those stash mountains under control.
If you want to join in
- leave me a comment below and place the Stash-busting for Stashaholics button in your side bar.
- Add the link party button too and link your projects to the stash-buster link party, there will be a new one on the first Sunday of each month so that we can see each others progress and motivate one another with idea's.
Weighing your projects is a great motivator, that way you can see just how many grams of yarn you have busted, if you would like to, I can keep a count for you in the totals section, check it out and see how much stash has been busted already.
We need to let other Stashaholics know they are not alone, so spread the word and lets have fun busting the stash. :)
Your questions answered
Is it too late to join in ?
No it is never too late, the challenge to bust the stash is ongoing and not confined to this year only.
Can I still join in even if I don't have a blog?
Yes of course you can, for those who don't have a blog......

Yes of course you can, for those who don't have a blog......
- May I suggest that you follow me by email top right then you will receive all of my posts and won't miss out on any updates.
- You can still link your projects to the link party even if you don't have a blog, just use the new link method.
- If you would like to weigh your projects and give me the total weight in grams each month I will add your name to the totals section here.
- If you would like to give me a starting total just leave a comment with the amount.
Please let me know if there are any more questions. and I will answer them here. :)
Good Luck this year Linda. I can see myself in every little descriptor. I would love to join in but would be joining under false pretences as I would never keep to the rule of using up my stash before buying more. My stash gives me such pleasure.
ReplyDeleteTo finish I have even found little lengths of wool inside my knickers! So there surely is no cure x
Thank you Linda,I agree entirely there is no cure but if I can control it just a little then it's all worthwhile. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda, I promise not to increase my stash this year (I promised that last year and when you see my new total you will see that it increased again!) my only problem is when it "comes in" via my front door from outside sources ha ha ie hubby brings some back from charity shop or woolly friend visits after a visit to her local charity shop or Im given it as a present ................. I could list so many excuses but have already made an effort by saying no to the latest Aldi wool so
ReplyDeleteMy new starting total for 2014 is 18,154g
Am off to try and link the buttons now to my blog
Thank you again for doing this for us xxx
Linda Im being really stupid as usual and cant set up my button on my blog can you remind me how to do it and how to link to you? Im sorry for being a pain xx
ReplyDeleteRight click on image and click on save image as, it will save to your computer.
DeleteClick on the stash busting for stashaholics title on my blog this will bring the post address up in my browser, copy
Click on design on your blog then layout on the left, click on add a gadget, select image, click on image and it will bring images up from your computer, select sash button. Then paste my post address in the link part, after getting rid of http:// as that's in my address already. Add a title if you wish, if not I just put a full stop there. then save.
Do the same for party button but click on button first to get reverent blog post address..
Hope this helps let me know if you don't manage and will try and explain in a different way. :)
Linda don't panic about last message somehow I managed to do it ! so badges are up and running on my blog xx
ReplyDeleteThat's great Jaqueline the how to is there if anyone else gets stuck. :)
DeleteI still have a lot of yarn. And last year I bough some else... ;-) So I will continue in stash-buster party this year, if I can :-))
ReplyDeleteLinda, I wish you a happy new year 2014!!!!
Yes welcome Katka and a Happy New Year to you. :)
DeleteOooh Linda I so want to Stash-Bust with you. I wanted to do it last year, but felt I couldn't join in part way through. So glad you're doing it again. I have so much yarn, I look at it and wonder if I am the 2nd largest wool warehouse lol. And I STILL buy more.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you.
Sally xxx
You would have been welcome Sally it was ongoing throughout the year but welcome to this one anyway. :)
DeleteWonderful! I think I'll join in this year too. :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome Sarah :)
DeleteLinda, after accumulating massive amounts of yarn in the month of December you can count me in. I will be stash-busting with all of you trying to be a good, for now there is no more yarn purchasing, but can you blame me if my LYS was going out of business and I got everything for a steal?
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and Happy New Year.
Meredith
I can't blame you at all Meredith how inconsiderate of them haha, welcome to the challenge. :)
DeleteYes... I think I am a stashoholic ;-) I will definitely join in. I will "kill 2 birds with one stone" (as the saying goes) becuase I just joined a challenge in Instagram to make 1 granny square a day, and I will definitely be using my stash for it. Thank you for keeping this going ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am off to set up the button.
My best wishes to you for this coming year, Linda.
Love, Ana BC
Best wishes to you Ana, I'm so glad you are joining in, a granny a day will keep you busy! :)
DeleteI'm so glad you are doing this again and I can't wait to participate! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Shelly, I'm so glad you are joining in again. :)
DeleteI admit to buying yarn without knowing what it is going to turn into, I will photograph my current stash, which although it may be smaller than most the only reason it is small is that I have only been working with yarn for about 10 months hehe. However I can see how it may get out of control if I'm not careful, especially with the easiness of shopping on-line at wool shops.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the challenge Linda, yes it's amazing just how quickly it does get out of control! :)
DeleteI'll be stash-busting again this year!
ReplyDeleteGood to have you aboard again this year Erin. :)
DeleteI've been trying to stash bust already this past month. I want to do as much as I can with my stash this year.
ReplyDeleteWell done then Stephanie you have a head start, welcome to the challenge. :)
DeleteI'm back again this year.
ReplyDeleteI can't promise there won't be any purchases but I can see I made some inroads in 2013 and would like to continue focussing on what is already in every room at my place. Ok so I don't Count the bathroom.
Thanks for hosting this challenge.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with wool in every room Mistea, welcome to the challenge. :)
DeleteHave you ever thought if you removed the bath panel, how much waisted space there is there? Yes I am getting Desperate to find new places. LOL ssPat
Deleteha ha why didn't I think of that Pat. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this again :-)
Kate
Glad you have managed ok Kate and welcome to the Challenge. :)
DeleteHi Linda, Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'll be joining your stash busting project too. I recently found several skeins of yarn in my bedroom closet while I keep all my yarns and threads in my office/crafts room. That yarn has been there for a long time (at least two years) and I had no idea it was there until I started decluttering. But it's really nice to find it, it's kind of like getting a Christmas present, lol. So count me in!
Happy New Year to you too Olga, what a lovely surprise finding yarn you didn't even know you had, welcome to the challenge :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Linda! Thank you for continuing to support us all in our efforts to bust the stash! I was already thinking of carrying on the mission...I've learned a lot in the last year!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to sharing the next year with you!
Ali x

DeleteOla ola ... I try to make something in this yaer too ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooking for ward to seeing your makes Korfela :)
DeleteHola Linda:
Welcome to the challenge, your blog is lovely, I'm looking forward to seeing all your projects. :)
DeleteOk I think this might post twice. I am a stashaholic NOT on Facebook. Last year I sent some yarn to Nathan Vincent for a project he is working on in Virginia. It helped in the teensiest way. Over the Christmas break Bernat had a great sale one day and I bought 20 skeins of Bernat WW yarn for the CAL's i will do this year and i already had a lot of yarn, but the price was soooo good and free shipping tooo!!!!!!!!! I couldn't help it. I am going to crochet it down this year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that Stephanie, we are all the same I think, we can't resist a bargain and why not as long as it's going to get used up. :)
DeleteHi Linda :) I am going to try to weigh my progress - although I think my scale will break if I weigh my stash! Rhondda
ReplyDeleteGood luck Rhondda lol
DeleteHi Linda!, I definitely interested in participating!, I have a lot of stash going on!
ReplyDeletexoxo Cindy
welcome to the challenge Cindy :)
DeleteHi Linda! I'm so glad you are carrying the Stash-Buster Challenge into 2014! I was REALLY hoping you would :D
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your progress Tracy
DeleteHello! I would like to join you but I don't have a blog yet! May I still participate? This so much!
ReplyDeleteHave emailed you Gigi :)
DeleteYour question is now answered above Gigi. :)
DeleteHello from Oregon! I don't have a blog, but I most definitely have a stash. I NEED to join in. Is this a possibility even if I don't have a blog? As to the weight of my stash, I have no idea. I guess my 1st task is to find out, hmm?
ReplyDeleteI'm bookmarking this page and pinning it too. Then I'll check back as I get working.
karla
Have e-mailed you Karla :)
DeleteHmmm....wonder what email address is coming up? I didn't see it - checked both inbox and spam. Yahoo.com? Anyway - I've finished a couple of infinity scarves. YEAH!
DeleteYour question is now answered above Karla :)
Deleteok i've just decided i'm going to play along again this year!
ReplyDeleteglad to be along for the ride :D

ReplyDeleteit's never too late hafza, welcome to the challenge. :)
DeleteHola Linda, me apunto este año otra vez al desafío de las lanas, me gustó mucho la idea del año pasado y me apetece repetir.
ReplyDeletebesos
That's great Anna welcome to the challenge. :)
DeleteHey Linda, I would like to join this years stash bust. Last year i did not do so good, but my hand was bothering me. Now i got it operated on and it is all better.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to a new stash busting year with you all.
Hugs from Iceland
Welcome to the challenge, Edda glad your hand is better. :)
DeleteI haven't figured out the technical aspects of the challenge yet, but I'm working on it. I took pictures of everything I've made - is there a place to share? Also, I don't have a scale except the one in the bathroom, so I weighed the finished products and came up with something between 1 and 2 lbs. Seems so little. LOL! How to convert to grams? Hmmm......I'll get this figured out yet, really I will!
ReplyDeleteHi Karla, bathroom scales aren't really accurate for small items, it would have to be a kitchen scale really so if you don't have one don't worry about it. You can link your pictures here, let me know if you get stuck and I will explain the how to.http://lindacraftycorner.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/stash-buster-link-party.html
ReplyDeleteI don't have one, but I'm going to ask around and see if any of the gals in our church have one I could borrow once a month or so.
ReplyDeleteI've just found you, by seeing your button in someone else's side bar. I think I've done everything, I have button that seem to work. Can I link up old projects form a month or two ago or is it just for new ones each month?
ReplyDeleteI love "free" projects from my stash so I'm very excited about this link up.
Hi Julia and welcome, to the stashbusters party, it's fine to link up anything you have made as long as they were made with stash yarn. it's usually what you have made each month but, you have some catching up to do so get linking. :)
DeleteThanks Linda, I will!
DeleteLinda, My hubby is starting to get frustrated with the amount of yarn in my stash. We try to keep it under control in plastic totes, but the truth of it is that it ends up ALL OVER THE HOUSE! I'm currently a very busy woman, working full time, in school full time and expecting our first child, a beautiful baby girl, in May and I'm ALSO running a non-profit business (or trying to, still getting the kinks worked out to get us up and running) to benefit a child advocacy center in Western PA. Since the items being sold for the business are all yarn crafts, I can definitely say a lot of my stash will hopefully get used for that. Anyways, I am very much interested in joining the stash buster party because I NEED TO BUST MY STASH!
ReplyDeleteWow you sound like a very busy lady, where will you get the time! welcome to the challenge. :)
DeleteDear Linda, I want to come to you again like last year! Greetings! Sabine.
ReplyDeleteHi Sabine it's lovely to see you back again! :)
ReplyDeletehttp://silvia-artesaniadelsur.blogspot.com
Thank you for you visit Silvia you are very welcome at any time. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through a stash buster button and definitely need to join!
Best,
B.
Welcome to the challenge. :)
DeleteNext question - I decided to start a blog of my own! How do I get the stashbuster button? Step by step instructions helpful if you have them, or point me in the direction of someone who can help perhaps?
ReplyDeletekarla
Karla send me an email with your email address and I will explain it to you. :)
DeleteHi there I am totally interested in this. I've actually already been using the "stuff on my shelves" for the last month or so. I have a segment on my blog called the "Project of the Week" so I've been using what I have to do a project each week (usually in multiples) so I'm using up some of my stash that way. Does that count? How exactly do I put the button (s) on my blog? Is there a code you have to be copied and pasted in a gadget area?? Thanks for this btw it sounds like fun to see everyone get involved. Take Care
ReplyDeleteHi Katie welcome to the challenge it's sounds as though you have been doing some serious stash-busting already. There is no code for the button if you go to the stash link party here http://lindacraftycorner.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/stash-buster-link-party.html
Deleteyou will find the how to in the comments section. :)
OMGosh I just got your reply so sorry. Thank you for the info. I am so happy to be a part of this with everyone. What a great idea. And the best part....the reward....we get to re-stock our shelves at some point....one of my favorite parts of my crochet world is yarn shopping. ;) Take care everyone.
DeletePlease count me in... Beautiful idea!!
DeleteWelcome Michelery :)
DeleteGreat idea, I need to join. I knit, & crochet both & have a lot of yarn around the house to use up. I need to have my hands tied up when going by a yarn or craft shop, so I won't purchase anymore for a long time. lol
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the challenge Christine, yes it sounds as if you have classic stashaholic symptoms lol :)
DeleteHello, here it is June. Is it too late to join in?
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to bust some stash as time permits. Right now I'm making a basket that takes about 4 skeins. I have a loooooottttt more than 4 skeins! It oozes out of my closet, I dare not buy more clothes or shoes. It's piled in plastic and cardboard boxes beside my bed, my husband is getting claustrophobic. There is no good reason for all this yarn. It needs to be repurposed from it's semi-permanent state of skeins and re-rolled partial skeins. I have Vanna's, Simply Soft, Stylecraft DK, and some stuff I don't even know what it is. My shoes get tangled in yarns that fell to the bottom of the closet out of my "organizer", my closet door sounds like fingernails on chalkboard as it scrapes across boxes of yarn piled, stacked, and stuffed inside.
I've even thought about offering classes on how to crochet, yarn included, just to clean out the stash.
Hi Valarie, no it's never too late to join in, it sounds like you are a serious stashaholic there haha. Looking forward too seeing your makes don't forget to link them to the stash link party.:)
DeleteI am adding you again to the side bar of my blog. Thank you for going another year. I try to do more each year
ReplyDelete*waves like a crazy lady* Hello my name is Paula and I am a stashaholic - weeeeeeeee
ReplyDeleteThank you for organising Linda, I shall hopefully be joining in this year and linking back.
Hi Kathleen, I have a huge stage in a disorderly closet and it definitely needs to be handled. I don't know how successful I will be but I would like to join.
ReplyDeleteWelcome ladies and happy stash-busting! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be joining in with your stash busting link up this year. I'm just sorting out the crafty closet and I'm finding all sorts of yarn and projects that have been hidden away for ages.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the challenge, I'm looking forward to seeing your stash-busting makes. :)
DeleteLinda My stash busting total for June 15 is 797...(Sorry I just couldn't find where to post it on the L H forum)
ReplyDeleteI know I am a few days early. ssPat
Hummm, I definitely seem to be answering 'yes' to a lot of the stashaholic questions... ;) Love your challenge!
