I don't mean edible puds although I do like those a lot but I think I will be buying those rather than making, no I'm talking about knitted Chocolate Orange Covers.
My local Macmillan Cancer Support have asked for these to sell for fundraising, I wish I had started earlier but I only got to hear about this a couple of weeks ago, now you know what that yarn was for I showed you back here but before I got started I wanted to finish my Christmas cushion first.
I get bored when making lots of the same thing all at once, I don't mind making one or two now and then but because time was of the essence I have put all my other craft projects to one side for this week to make these.
These are a doddle to make thanks to Marianna's easy pattern here but they are somewhat fiddly and you do have to be in the mood. Added to which they are knitted and as I'm still working on the knitted baby blanket and socks it's put quite a large strain on my hands and they are starting to hurt, so after I have finished these knitting projects I had better stick to crochet for a while as that doesn't seem to bother them as much and I'm missing it, I haven't done any crochet for nearly two weeks and I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms I want to start on my third cushion.
Yay! twelve complete. |
Advent
I'm feeling a little bit sad that I didn't get an advent calendar, looking around blogland many of you are opening tantalising little packages and blogging everyday, what fun! I will have to be sure to be more prepared for next year. I start off with the best of intentions but somehow time seems to get away with me and I leave things too late.
One thing that I do look forward to every year is The Drops Christmas Calendar, I love clicking on those little doors everyday and finding a free festive pattern behind them.
A new Supermarket
A new Morrisons supermarket has opened near us, it was supposed to open years ago but the building has remained empty until now. I went for the first time yesterday and was quite impressed it's a nice store bright clean with friendly staff. It will be even better when they are allowed to open the restaurant when Covid restrictions lighten, we are in tier three at the moment.
Those little Christmas puddings are so cute, I'm not a lover of the real thing so these filled with a chocolate orange is more up my street. I love Morrisons but our nearest one is further away than all the other supermarkets so we don't use it very often. I do usually do my Christmas shop there though. Yes, I've got a Be-Ro book and like you, have the latest version and an older one too, I'd be lost without it.
ReplyDeleteThe little puds are super cute but i can see why they would be fiddly and, like you, I'm not a fan of making the same thing over and over again. I keep thinking I'll make things to sell to raise money for some of the animal rescue groups, but I'd have to figure out what to make and have a good supply and just can't seem to get myself to that point. :/
ReplyDeleteOH! dear I missed your last post! I did want to tell you how wonderful that Christmas mosaic cushion is. I am thinking that would be a good project for me but I have too many wips at the moment. I shall have to wait until next Christmas to make it! I agree with you I do not like having to repeat the same make! I get bored so easily!! I have followed your link to the Drops Advent calendar which I had not heard of before. It is good I am going to follow it daily. Those Christmas puddings are lovely and for such a good cause. keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteOh Linda, I love your little chocolate orange coats. They remind me of a pin cushion an aunt gave me - I'll send you a photo of it via LH. I'm glad your melting moments were successful - I think I'll be making some more! Yes I have a couple of elderly Bero books which I love, but also a Stork one which my Mam gave me years ago and which I still use on a regular basis. You can't beat the old and tried recipes xxx
ReplyDeleteThose christmas puddings are so cute! I love christmas pudding, with custard or cream, not brandy butter. I havent made any melting moments for a long time, yours look yummy.
ReplyDeleteYou made such cute Christmas puddings Linda! The baking sounds great too. Have a nice weekend Linda.

ReplyDeleteIt worthwhile all your efforts, the Christmas Puds are lovely and they will be sucess.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday and Congratulations: Yesterday was the international day of volunteers.
Those knitted puddings are adorable. Those cookies have my mouth watering. Enjoy your weekend crocheting.
ReplyDeleteI saw tons of people coming out of a local store with Advent calendars. I looked at them and thought they were so expensive. Our son isn't a fan of chocolate. I didn't think he needed the coffee or alcohol on either. So I passed on them. Maybe next year I too will be more prepared.
ReplyDeleteLOL on getting excited about an new store. Yes, we do need to get our amusement where we can.
LOVE the orange covers. I've never seen anything like that. They are adorable!!!
The Christmas Puds are adorable. The cookies look delicious. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThose little cupcake things are so cute (American here, so Christmas pudding doesn't compute LOL!) Hopefully the fund raising goes very well.
ReplyDeleteThose Chocolate Orange Covers are sweet. Gosh you have knitted a lot of them. I did smile when I read of you taking photos of a supermarket....it does look like a great one. =) Enjoy your knitting....perhaps you can munch on one or two of those delicious Melting Moments.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun knitted gift - so cute! But I can understand that making them in big batches would be tiring on your hands!
ReplyDeleteThose little knitted puds are lovely. I'm the same with knitting and crochet, I tend to alternate to keep my hands happy.
ReplyDeleteMy husband still talks now about the melting moments that they used to have at school. I must whip up a batch for him as a surprise!
I love the Christmas puddings, I had to look up the word doddle as it is not said over here in the states. I like it and might have to use it! Thank you for the Drops calendar idea, I will be visiting everyday for fun. Stay safe Linda.
ReplyDeleteI had my hands on one of the advent calendars but opted to put it back this year. I need to go shopping and get things for the kids christmas countdown 'snakes'... my version of it. They are older now so I think I'll just get chocolate treats for them each day to open up starting on the 10th. Your knitted puds are adorable.
ReplyDeleteYour little Christmas puddings are so sweet - even if not edible.

I'd never heard of a pud before so I had to google it. I have to say, your little puds look almost as delicious as the edible ones I found online. :) Very cute. And I'm chuckling at your comments about taking pictures of the new supermarket. I enjoyed looking at them. Except for when a store is crowded, or I'm tired, a grocery store/supermarket is one of my favorite places to be. Good thing, since it's about the only place I go these days.
ReplyDeleteThose hats are fantastic
