Five on Friday

This week I thought that I would talk about my love of KAL/CALs, I'm always on the look out for new ones that are coming up.  The reason why I like them so much is because it's usually a great learning experience I almost always learn a new technique or stitch.

There is nearly always a facebook or Ravelry group where you can share your progress and ask for help if needed.  Many have video tutorials too so it's almost impossible to get stuck.

It's always nice if you can actually work along with the group but I have found because I try to do too much at once I'm always way behind which doesn't really matter at all in fact in some ways it's a good thing because all the mistakes have been made and all the questions have been asked already and you can benefit from other peoples experiences.

Here are 5 which are on the go now or are about to start..

ONE
Progressive Needles KAL

Fingerless mittens knit in the round with top flap, I'm determined to make these I even have the yarn. :)

This Kal is now on  Part Two

The ever increasingly popular corner to corner now made into squares to make up this lovely blanket.
This one has already started there is a free pattern and weekly step by step tutorials for those new to this design.

FOUR
Twisted and Twirled

Beginning on the 12th July a separate mystery Cal/Kal every other week

Something a bit different for those of you who like to make jewelry, the Cal/Kals are small projects, great for using leftover yarn and I would think great for christmas gifts too.

Mystery Afghan 2015 – August 1st

More about this one can be found here

and just to finish off how about this for Summer loveliness

From Mikey and the crochet crowd find out about it here

I Know that some of you will know about and are maybe following some of these already but I hope that I have given some of you something to think about. If you are following another cal/kal please let me know about it because I am going to place a cal/kal link at the top of my blog and keep it updated so that everyone can see at a glance what cal/kals are available.

Have the best of weekends. :)

  1. I have never done a CAL - or KAL because I cannot knit! - but they always look like good fun and as you say, the joining in and sharing aspect certainly appeals. I saw the new deramores one and thought that looked great, but as I have several other things on the go and still have a long wip list I wont join in. I will look forward to seeing all of your progress though! I can CAL and KAL along virtually with you!! Hee hee! Thank you so much as always for joining in. I hope that you have a great weekend! xx

  5. I too have never done a KAL/CAL as I always find the pattern after its over. That's a great idea to list them on your blog. I'm going to sign up as a follower since I'm an avid crochet/knit addict! Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

  6. Oh my gosh! You have just created a monster... I am checking out for sure Progressive Needles KAL and Julie Anny's Mystery'Ghan 2015! I also love that last photo from Stitch-Cation 2015... oh dear, what's a girl to do? Knit and crochet the summer away of course, lol!
Hugs and thanks for this great Five on Friday post (even if it does get me in trouble with the yarn fairy)! :D

  11. Hi Linda, I've never joined in with a CAL but I did join in with Winwick Mum's Sockalong and manage to complete one sock! The second sock is a WIP still. As you say, not a bad thing to be a bit behind with one, that way benefitting from others' experience. What a good idea to collate the CALs/KALs in one place xx

  12. You always amaze me with your involvement with the crochet and knitting community! How do you keep ahead Linda?! I'm so tempted with the KAL, but have never taken the plunge. I'm hesitant I would not be able to keep up. I hope my swap partner for Christmas isn't reading this ;) Love all of these images ... looking forward to your final reveals!

  13. I am such a slow knitter that I almost never do it anymore. (never was very proficient) Love the image of the green stitches.
