I love making pompoms but I don't usually make them unless I need them for embellishments, now that has all changed thanks to the Great Sense Pompom Challenge now I can make them for fun too!
I always have to have someone to blame for distracting me from whatever it is I aught to be doing, and this time it's Ali's fault ever since I read about the challenge on her blog, I can't stop making pompoms!
Now there are so many reasons why we can, and not feel guilty for wasting our time. Just think of the advantages
What about that yarn you have in your stash, like this bright lime green mohair, I really never thought I would get rid of it, I mean to say what can you do with lime green mohair!
MAKE POMPOMS.....lovely soft squishy squashy pompoms they feel just great. You can use up all those yarns you don't know what to do with because it's all for a good cause, and the different textures will feel so good to the visually impaired.
Smooth and shaggy, big or small, just go with your inner pompom.
I was getting quite carried away with this one it's supposed to be a flower
You can see that right? See there's the stem.
I suppose it could be a candle too.
Can you tell I'm having fun with these.
Read all about the Challenge here and the great news is there is still plenty of time because they are accepting pompoms until the 12th December and if you can't send them to add to the big pompom tapestry then you can add them to the pompom gallery.
If you really want to get some pompom inspiration check out this website it's amazing, I'm going to try some of those because I still haven't satisfied my pompom cravings yet.
Thank you for the info Ali, I'm having so much fun.:)
105 grams of pompoms made so far and counting...........
Letting you share my beautiful birthday flowers ....
These from my daughter...

Thank you Shari, it was my birthday on the 20th but the flowers still look so pretty I had to share, your pompom flower arrangement sounds like fun. :)
DeleteI hope you had a wonderful Birthday and those flowers are oh, so gorgeous. I had two of the little girls I work with make pom pom with me. We made big ones and we use them fro throwing and catching as they are a lot softer and slower than a ball. It was a fun activity.
ReplyDeleteHugs to yo Linda,
Meredith
Thank you Meredith, that's sounds like fun kids do love pompoms I remember I used to make them and play with them when I was small (nothings changed then haha) :)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful bouquets for birthday, all the best!
Sorry for my bad English.:(
Thank you ljubinka, you English is fine! :)
DeleteHappy birdy from me too. I love the flower pom poms....a work of art. They would look great as a table centre piece in Christmas colours.
ReplyDeleteThank you Una yes you are right I'm trying to think how to make some Christmas ones, they would look good with tree shapes inside the pompom, might be beyond me though. :)
DeleteI've always had trouble making pompoms. I finally bought a pompom maker a little bit ago, but I haven't tried it yet.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Birthday! :)
Thank you Debi, try your pompom maker with caution because once you start you may never stop haha :)
DeleteI had so much fun too with the pomspoms...........also inspired by Ali
ReplyDeleteYes I have seen them on your blog Ali they are lovely. :)
DeleteWayhay! What wonderful pompoms Linda! Love the flower! So glad you had so much fun - and great that the closing date has been extended!
ReplyDeleteAli x
Yes Ali I sent them an email and they said they were accepting them up until the 12th, I'm sending a shoe box full down.:)
DeleteI love making pom poms too ... are you using a pom pom maker, or a ring of cardboard? I read Ali's post a while ago too, and it sounds like a great cause. Unfortunately I have too much on the go right now to contribute (Christmas looms .. arrgh!).
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Linda!! Lovely flowers ... gorgeous roses!! And are those birthday chocolates trying to hide there in all those pom poms? ;)
Wendy x
I am using all sorts Wendy, I have used a pompom maker and have just wound some around my fingers too, they all look good and yes they are birthday chocolates, trying to hide them with the pompoms so I'm not tempted to eat them all at once haha :)
DeleteAh Linda, this post made me laugh - your captions are great, as are your gorgeous colourful pompoms - and oh, you've had a birthday!

DeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining the Great Sense Pompom Challenge! We loved the pompom Buddha! (and everything else) Would you post that on our gallery? http://www.sense.org.uk/content/pompom-gallery
All the best,
Anna
You are most welcome Anne, have uploaded it to your gallery :)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Linda, Happy belated birthday, sorry, I realise it was ten days ago, but it was lovely to share the beautiful bouquets you received.... I love the roses as they are my favourite flower.
ReplyDeleteThe pom pom challenge is fun..... you'll never believe it, but I have just made 4 pom poms for a vintage tea cosy which my daughter wanted me to make. I can't remember the last time I made pom poms.... do you know it was probably when my daughters were small and I made them to go on their hats..... and here you are talking about pom poms as well. I found it very therapeutic making the pom poms, but I did it the old fashioned way with card.
Have a lovely weekend.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Thank you Daphne, roses are my favourite flowers too. I usually make pompoms with card too, but I must admit the pompom makers are very good and you can make them in half the time. :)
