Five On Friday

It seems weeks since I joined in with Amy's Five on Friday and had the time to pop round and see how you are all doing so I'm joining in this week and writing this in the few minutes I have spare before I rush off to work, I hope that you all had a lovely Easter by the way and ate lots of chocolate I did :)

One
I bought this Easter cactus several weeks ago I didn't even know there was such a thing as an Easter cactus and I wasn't convinced that it would flower in time for Easter but look....

The flowers opened on Easter Sunday. :)

Two
There is definitely a touch of Spring in the air we had sunshine nearly all day yesterday and what a difference that makes I even managed to get outside and do a bit of necessary gardening...

I have had to take drastic measures and chop down the hebe bush outside of my front door.

This is what it was like before...

I know it seems a shame but each year it gets bigger and bigger and more difficult for me to tame, I'm not done with it yet I'm going to cut it as short as I can but I'm going to have to borrow a saw as the loppers can't cope with the thicker branches.  It does look a mess right now and I have no idea if it will grow back after such a drastic haircut only time will tell so watch this space.

Three
I finished decorating the living room a week before Easter I had to stall a bit until my back got better but thank goodness it's done now.

Before...

 During

and after

What do you think?

Four
I know I said I wouldn't but.....

Remember that garden centre that was changing hands well the yarn went down to 30% off I really couldn't resist any longer, I haven't a clue where i'm going to put it, it's residing
in my sons bedroom at the moment along with lots of other stuff that gets bunged in there when he's away, hopefully I will use it very soon still no definite plans for it yet but you know it will get used eventually, that stash total of mine is getting bigger rather than smaller.

Five
Leaving you with my March Sweater..

I have challenged myself to make one boy sweater a month and I honestly didn't think that I would have time to finish it before the end of March but I managed to complete it just in time.  So although I haven't managed to reach all my March targets the most important have been achieved and that's all that matters.
You can see my March Teds here

I will will be catching up with you all very soon
Have a great weekend.

  1. I think your new room looks like a show home. It was worth all the effort. As for the hebe, I'm sure it will grow back. You still have plenty of greenery left. I love hebes. They seem to do well in my soil and are so hardy and pretty.

  2. Your decorating looks great, excellent timing getting it finished for Easter. You did well to resist the Bonus DK for so long, which meant you got it even cheaper - happy days.

  4. I found a wonderful new wool shop a few days ago. Luckily it was closed for Easter - or it would have cost me a fortune! Nice jumper.

  5. Your sitting room looks great. Bet you are so relieved it's finished. I can't blame you buying the wool...it was a bargain:) I think I need to get serious with some of my plants outside, sometimes a light prune is not enough. Have a great weekend. B x

  10. What a beautiful Easter cactus and I can see why your hebe needed a drastic haircut!!! Your living room looks really good, you wouldn't want to come and do mine would you? I am glad I am not the only one tempted by bargains in the wool department. xx

  16. That is a big room to decorate, but it looks so good afterwards!! You must be really pleased, the new sofas are lovely and I really like the rug under your coffee table, very nice! Hope you get to relax in there with your yarn! Your rosemary (I think?) should be OK as long as there are still green bits on it. Thank you for taking part in Five On Friday, I hope you have a great weekend! xx

  17. Wow! Linda you are amazing! Your living room looks fantastic! I love the wall colour, and it picks up the shade of the inner fireplace surround perfectly. Great colour with the new grey couches too. They look so sleek and trendy! You did a great job of setting the room up again. Great coffee table & new rug there too. You must be thrilled every time you walk into that room! Wonderful job :)

I have a Christmas cactus that blooms again at Easter. A little different kind of flower than yours. Good luck with tidying up the last of the massive bush! Ha ha! I don't envy you battling such a monster. I've had my share of chopping down ungainly bushes and hope I never have to tackle another!
The sweater looks great! I am not going to say anything about the addition to your yarn stash ;)
    Have a great weekend!

  18. I wonder if I can find an Easter cactus in the US? Will certainly try. Your make-over room is lovely. A fresh room gives one a real boost. I predict that it will lead to another big project.

Now thats some pruning, but I am sure the Hebe will come back just as lovely - every plant appreciates a good pruning.
