Sunday Smiles

I know what you are thinking ..hang on what happened to The Monday Smile, well the thing is I find blogging on a Sunday easier and after seeing lots of 'what makes you happy post's' I thought I would do a similar one but on a Sunday at the end of the week.

Sunday Smiles will be a round up of random things that have made me smile during the week.  Do feel free to join me if you wish if something makes you smile just jot it down and share it on Sunday Smiles.

So the things that made me smile this week are...

Making a mandala!
Everyone is making them and they are highly addictive, I have been collecting patterns for a while now and have wondered what yarn to make them with and have decided that cotton is best but my stash of cotton isn't huge so my colour choices will be governed by what I have in my stash.
This lovely mandala pattern can be found on Nata's blog here and if you can't be bothered to make one and would like to win one instead Nata is having a giveaway do pop over to her blog and check it out.

Seeing this picture of my sons girlfriends cat, this cat lives in Hong Kong and I just had to smile when I saw it.

Blossoms on my Apple tree could this mean I might actually have some apples to harvest this year? in my experience blossoms don't always mean fruit and I haven't had an apple off  this tree for two years.  It's a patio apple tree and lives in a pot and getting the nutrient balance right is a bit of a nightmare so fingers crossed.

I won on the premium bonds!!!  Guess how much.....a huge £25!  should I use it to replenish my cotton stash..mmm temptation haha

I bought this today in my local Aldi, it was only £2 99 the pot is worth more than that.  Pammy Sue has resurrected my love of succulents, I love this one it has a variegated leaf, my daughter bought one too with a plain shiny leaf, i'm standing mine on my kitchen window sill for now.

I am going to start a new project with this wool.  It has been in my stash for years, I can't wait to get started on it, don't you just love starting a new project.  It's going to be another blanket made in granny squares but nowhere as big as my Violet Meadow Blanket. I will show you how it progresses.

and last but by no means least we have had sunshine all weekend! I'm off to weed the flower beds so have a great week and don't forget to gather your smiles and share them with us so that we can all smile along with you. :)

  1. Your mandala turned out so pretty. They ARE addicting. I started making them once, and ended up with a whole stack for a giveaway. I think I gave away 6 or 8. I can't remember exactly, but the point is they were fun and I couldn't stop! Look at your succulent! Yay! It's the same type as one I just bought. You'll enjoy seeing it sitting in your window every day. I have no idea what a premium bond is...never heard of it, but congratulations! And, yes, you definitely should buy some new cotton yarn with it. How fun.

  2. I think Sunday is probably better for all your readers as well and I do love a bit of onomatopoeia.

  5. I like that you have moved your 'smile' to Sunday too, I can almost always catch up with all my blogging friends on a Sunday.
What made me smile this week was my boyfriend having a quiet snooze on the sofa at his sisters' house this afternoon after all the madness of a children's birthday party was over. His two year old nephew went to investigate this sleeping grown-up (my BF is 6ft 4" tall) who was is so long that his feet overhang the end of the sofa. Then his nephew prised those feet apart and poked his head through to play peek-a-boo.

  8. Love your mandala! I, too, have been making mandalas recently. :) I like using cotton for them, too. I figure that way they can be used as hot pads. Plus I have to admit, I love the feel of the soft, WW cotton. Congratulations on your win! :)

  17. Good Afternoon Linda, This was a 'sunny' post... I loved it. That is one very content cat living over there in Hong Kong, he obviously lives a lovely life.
My apple blossom is out as well, and like you I have not had a single apple. I am hoping it changes this year, as my apple tree was planted in a pot, the same as yours.... but with one slight difference, I have given up and planted it in the ground and this year it seems to be doing so well. I am keeping my fingers crossed for an apple or two this year.
Congratulations..... £25.... now you will have fun buying some new yarn.
    Enjoy.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  18. I love the colours you used for the mandala! I am still suffering from Mandalitis - every time I think I am over it - I see a pretty Mandala on someone's blog - and I have a relapse!
