Running Late

Another new month and a promise of Spring but before I step into March I need to tie up my February loose ends, I always seem to need an extra few days to do that but to be fair February was a short month.

The Monthly Birth Flower

Violet

I have to be honest I just finished this yesterday, I did enjoy sewing it but the leaves are sewn in chain stitch which is a first for me I have never embroidered leaves in chain stitch before and honestly I don't think I will again I'm not sure I like the finish, I found it quite hard to get the stitches even and neat, it will have to do, I won't be redoing it that's for sure.

You can find the free templates for the Birth Month Flowers here

Another thing I did manage to do thank goodness was to give my embroidery threads a bit of a tidy.  I couldn't for the life of me decide on a proper system of how to store them, there are just too many, this was them before stuffed into a bag and thoroughly tangled.

Yes I was ashamed and I don't know how I dare show you that photo!

In the end I sorted them into piles of each colour

and then just put each colour into a plastic bag and those were were then placed into a drawer.

not perfect but better than the way they were before and, they can all be found in one place.

Learning Italian seems to be taking up an awful lot of my time without me seeming to get anywhere. It is obvious that my ability to  retain knowledge has gone right out of the window. We were given a list of about 20 words to learn, I applied all the methods I used to use when studying in my younger days even going so far as as writing each one down several times, by the end of the week I had managed to remember just one! I kid you not, it's like banging ones head off a brick wall.  I have decided not to try so hard and who knows one day l may wake up fluent in Italian haha, perhaps I should just give it up as a bad job.

My February

  1. A Little herd of miscarriage elephants.
  2. Another Pentagon bowl, that's two and I may make one more.
  3. My valentines day treat, it's cherry flavour but I wasn't impressed, it will be the original Turkish Delight from now on.
  4. Violet February birth flower.
  5. Tidy embroidery threads at last!
  6. New fridge freezer.
  7. Memory box for my DIL
  8. Fridge magnets waiting to be placed onto new fridge freezer.
  9. The attempt at learning Italian continues.
  10. End of life blanket square.
  11. My attempt at needle felting below.

 Thoughts for March

  • Sew the March birth flower (daffodil)
  • Try and finish an embroidery work in progress.(yes it's still not finished)
  • Make at least two end of life blanket squares.
  • There has been a call out for knitted and crochet Teds (I'm thinking about it)
  • Prayer squares.
There are several other things buzzing around in my head, this is the problem too many ideas and not enough time, added to which I'm hoping that the weather improves and if it does there may be a bit of gardening going on which means there may be very limited time left for crafting and for Italian come to think.

What are your March thoughts, have you made any plans?

Take care until next time. 😘😘

  2. Linda, my embroidery cottons look exactly like your tangled mess of threads. You have done well to corral them and place them in tidy groups. You certainly have fashioned a lot of lovely pretties throughout February. Good luck with the Italian.

  4. A pretty violet. I have all my threads wound around bobbins, though cross stitch is a relatively new hobby for me so they haven't had chance to get out of hand yet, give it time! No plans here for March, I've got quite a bit going on this year so I just don't have the headspace at the moment, I'm just going with the flow.

  5. I love the little elephants but am wondering why the blanket is called 'End of Life Blanket' sounds creepy.

  6. Don't be so hard on yourself. Violet is beautiful.
Love the end of life blanket, is it a C2C or what?
Don't give up, it was your beginning with the Italian language. There are beautiful Italian songs that can help your brain get familiar to the sound of Italian words. Be persistent. Buon fine settimana.

  7. That's a pretty stitched flower. My threads are organised on bobbins and in plastic storage cases, mostly stored by number, although I have a pile to sort and put back and keep putting it off. My March plans are to try and get some things finished off that would only require few days attention

  9. I love the February flower. I thing those leaves look just fine, though I can't imagine makeing them with chain stitch. Wow. Your floss organization looks like my fabric scrap organizing method. I love the blanket blocks.

  10. Hello ♡
You have a wonderful blog. Great post. Each work done by yourself is unique. It is this originality that makes the art of craftsmanship delight! These elephants are beautiful :)

  11. Great job on the embroidery floss organization... I need to do the same thing, but I'm sure I will just continue digging around in the bin making more of a mess! I think your violet is perfect! I haven't done much with the chain stitch, but it sounds like it was frustrating.

  13. You do keep busy and seem to have a lot of projects on ...
Well done on sorting out your threads, nice to have things organised.

We have no definite plans yet for March apart from some family birthdays.

    All the best Jan

  14. You are doing beautiful work with your hospital? donations with miscarriage elephants and end of life blankets. Learning a new language must be difficult in later years. I learnt French and Latin at school, and have forgotten most of it by now.

  15. My but you know how to fill your time Linda 😊 Lovely embroidery. Sorting those threads out must have been quite time consuming…which reminds me that I need to sort my boxes of embroidery threads out too😉 Don’t worry about not remembering the vocabulary in Italian, submerge yourself in the language by watching films,YouTube’s or listening to songs or broadcasts. You need to educate your ear to all the new sounds. it will gradually fall into place! Practise the language whenever you can again don’t worry about correctness or making mistakes eventually you will correct yourself. Sing in Italian 🤩. Label everything you have around you with post its in Italian. Every time you go past that label repeat it out loud! Divertisi. Amanda x

  16. I'm not very good at planning and any time I try, something gets in the way so I decided my word of the year is FLOW. :) Nice violet - my birth flower. I've been with my Palestinian husband or 30 years and do you think I speak Arabic fluently? Not even close. My brain just won't soak it up no matter how much I hear it. I know lots of words but that's about it. Yet have a friend who speaks fluently many languages and can get by in many others. Wish my brain was wired in that way. I have a lot of untidy threads that I just don't even bother to sort. Happy crafting. Take care.
