A New Arrival

Thank you for all the lovely Comments in my last post, it's been a while since I have even been able to visit this little space of mine so some of your comments have just been published I love and appreciate each and every one.😘😘

It's been a very busy few weeks but I'm happy to announce the arrival of Grandson number three little Louis, he was born on the 29th February so he's a leap year baby, his Daddy is a Christmas day baby and his brother little Mikey has his birthday on the same day as my brother. It's strange how things work out and how the same numbers seem to crop up in families time and time again, have you noticed it in yours?

Anyway I digress, little Louis is as sweet as can be but his poor mummy had quite a time of it, three days in labour! she was sent home from the hospital on two consecutive nights and  on the third she delivered right in the middle of them giving her an epidural so no pain relief! I feel so sorry for us woman I really do the things we have to put up with!

I stayed with them to look after Mikey the days leading up to the birth and we went into the hospital the morning after he was born so that Mikey could say hello to his new little brother, I was struck at how things have changed for the worse in the six years since Mikey was born, it's so obvious that the NHS is under strain with staff shortages in all departments Midwifery being one of the worst area's affected.  I could go on, as a retired midwife/nurse it's very sad to see.

This is really just a short post to let you know that I am still around but quite busy with family stuff.  I have my MRI scan today to see if it sheds any light on the tingling/numb sensations in my head and face and it's bang in the middle of Mother's day so there won't be much celebrating going on haha.

I'll leave you with some photos and hopefully things will get back to normal very soon.😊

First outing big brother Mikey's baby blanket made six years ago by Grandma still looks new

This is baby Julian now five months old, showing off his first two teeth, they have just come through much to the relief of mammy and daddy

Julian loves playing with his Lovey toy, now grandma is going to have to make one for cousin Louis too.

I have started knitting another pair of socks for my Lip Reading teacher Anne

The making of Easter Chicks still goes on, these were made with a crochet square so easy to make.

Progress is very slow but I'm enjoying the process.

Happy Mother's Day to all who are celebrating! 😘😘

The Granny Rose and Hello April

I love April it's my favourite month of the year, longer nights and warmer weather but as I'm writing this there is snow falling outside, amazing really when you think that the temperatures were more than 10° higher last week, looking back to last year we had snow in April then too. At least I know that there won't be much more of it and it will get warmer.

Looking back on March  I am happy to say that I did manage to complete everything that I said I would and a little bit extra too.  The last thing I made was another 24" square for the comfort blankets.

The Granny Rose

I love this rose and have used it quite extensively in the past if you want to take a quick peek you can see more of my granny rose projects below. Back then, I thought it would be a lovely idea to make a blanket for my bed using this design and I set about making dozens of these roses and then crocheting them into granny squares, then other things took over and they got put to one side.  I have resurrected  these and joined them into a larger square, I think that they look really pretty and would make a lovely centrepiece for a larger blanket.

Other Things

The trees just beyond my garden border have worried me since I moved in here over four years ago, I do love trees but when they plant them they do so without any thought of which type of tree would suit the space.

Taken yesterday as you can see a dull wet day with the odd snowfall.

These will grow over 20 feet high if left unchecked, already their roots have grown half way down my garden towards the house, I can't dig the soil because of the roots and the decking is buckled in places because of them. My garden is South facing but these trees completely block the sun when they are in full leaf.  A few years ago I asked the council if they would trim them and they refused so my neighbour and myself  took matters into our own hands and got someone to trim them for us.

Taken through my bedroom window, my heart was in my mouth watching him and he stayed up there in the midst of falling snow and sleet showers too working for over four hour on my side alone.

I've just snapped this photo below while the sun is shining you can see the difference, they don't look very pretty now but I'm sure that they will, as soon as they put on new branches and leaves in the Summer.

As I was driving home along the sea front this morning I saw this rainbow and I quickly parked the car and took a picture of it.

You can hardly see it in the photo, it looked so much nicer in real life .

My March

To do in April
  • Give you my thoughts about waterfall crochet.
  • Make at least one baby blanket.
  • Embroider the birth month flower daisy x2
  • Make an Easter display
  • Continue with my Spring garland.
I'm sure that lots more inspiration will come a knocking.  What are you planning for April?

Well I think it's time for a little bit of Italian study, I have learnt a few words which is better than nothing at least a few things have sunk into my brain, a few random words that on their own don't mean very much at all, ah well at least I'm trying 😀

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, take care until next time.😘😘

Bit's And Pieces

Hello all you lovely people, I hope you are all having a good month so far, I know that there is a deep sadness in all of our hearts at the moment because of what is going on in Ukraine but let that encourage us us make the most of what we have and live each day to the full.

Here we are past the mid point of the month and my poor head is spinning with  ideas of what I want to make, I'm like a butterfly at the moment (certainly not in the beautiful sense you understand😂) flitting from one project to another.

I want to make a spring garland, something simple and pretty here is the start.

Some little primroses, I'm going to keep it very simple, more of these and a few blossoms and leaves.

I would like to make an Easter garland too along with a little Easter display, I like to decorate my Crochet board at the u3a monthly meetings to attract new members to my group and because this will be the last meeting before Easter it should really have an Easter theme. I'm thinking a bunny garland the start of which is below.

and maybe a little basket of Easter eggs and a chick or two, the meeting is week after next so I had better get a move on.

On the charity front I have knitted these prayer squares, which are given to bereaving parents.

I am in the middle of making a bed runner and I'm revisiting the circle in a granny square which is a pleasure to hook

I would say I'm halfway through so hopefully it'll be finished next week and I'll be able to show you the finished bed runner.

Then there's the Embroidery, I have almost finished one birth month flower which is the daffodil for March, this is part of the Year of Flowers  SAL which I have just started over on Stitchdoodles,

and inspired by Kathy from Kathy's Quilts I have started this as well, a simple but very meaningful stitchery because of what's going on at present.

and if that wasn't enough I have heard about a new crochet technique! you know I have tried so many techniques in crochet and have loved many of them, there are some which take an awful lot of time and patience and I haven't succeeded in becoming proficient simply because of the time it would take for me to understand and to practice to get it right. The one I'm thinking about is interlocking crochet, I did try but didn't pursue it further because I decided I liked the mosaic technique of crochet more and the finished  product.

This time it's waterfall crochet and I'm really excited to try it. Mikey from the Crochet Crowd will be hosting this, I love his video tutorials he makes learning fun, it will start on the 28th March and I can't wait to at least try. The blanket they are making is below it's called the Crochet Geometry Lessons SAL

Thank you as always for all the lovely comments and the good wishes about my fall I did have some achy joints afterwards but thankfully they seem to be easing and I am trying to be more mindful in my daily activities.😊

Leaving you with some early Spring loveliness...

Daffs almost ready to unfurl

I love succulents and cacti, this morning that tiny flower appeared 😀

Well the sun is shining and my garden beckons, I was going to wash my car but my neighbour's drive is right next to mine and he has just parked his car, I'm thinking I can't wash my car while his is so close (that's my excuse anyway haha) So I think I will make a start on cleaning my Summer House instead.

Stay safe until next time. 😘😘

Happy Easter!

A short post today firstly to say a big thank you for all the comments and suggestions after my insomnia post last week.  It's quite shocking to realise that so many of us are having problems with sleeping. I am going to try each of your suggestions and will report back in a few weeks to let you know if they have had any effect.  I know that what helps some to sleep will not necessarily help others but I think anything is worth a try.

We have had a couple of beautiful weather days here in England, hopefully a taste of what is to come, but unfortunately not this weekend.  Here in the Uk we can now meet up with six people outdoors or in our gardens, I am planning an Easter egg hunt for Mikey my little grandson and had hoped we would have been able to sit outside and enjoy some sunshine for a while but it looks like the weather won't be in our favour, however we will do the best we can, I can't wait to see my family in my garden again, fingers crossed that it won't rain.🤞

I have been busy painting Easter rocks to hide for Mikey and some to hide in the neighbourhood.

I had a lot of fun painting these and there's still time to paint a few more before I put them out.

I was so pleased to see a response to my snail trail, a lady on Facebook posted that she had found Sally and Sonya and she thought they were so cute! it was lovely to hear that they were putting a smile on someone's face it makes it all worthwhile.😊

On the crafting front I am pleased to say that DIL's birthday gift is nearly done, I have only the last round of the border to finish, hopefully I can do that today and then it will be ready to gift to her on Sunday.

The Twelve Days Of Christmas Sampler is on track, I managed to put the last stitch in for day six just before the end of March, now I can look forward to sewing day seven in April.

I would like to wish a Happy Easter to everyone who is celebrating this weekend, I hope you all have a wonderful time catching up with your relatives and friends but please stay safe.
