I know I have been promising to show you my Moogly Blanket for ages but for one reason or another I haven't been able to so here it is at last!..
I finished it in quite a hurry just before Christmas, I didn't really have time to consider how I was going to join it or what edging to use.
Putting a large blanket together does have it's challenges, I placed all the squares on the bed, stood on a stool so that I could get a bird's eye view then kept switching them around until I got the layout I was happy with.
I then sewed them in strips on the wrong side, sewed the strips together, then joined them again in dc/sc on the front. if I'd had time I would have made a cream border round each of the squares before joining but I was in a hurry to get it finished in time to gift to my daughter for Christmas. I'm pleased to say that she really loved it, it's such an interesting blanket with all the different designs and textures.

I kept the edging very simple because of the complexity of the squares and because of the lack of time and I think it worked very well, One round of dc(sc), two rounds of htr(hdc) and a final round of crab stitch which is my favourite stitch for edging.
I made this blanket purely out of stash yarn so I managed to bust quite a lot of my Aran stash in fact the last squares were quite a challenge because I had to go with the colours I had left. Unfortunately I didn't have time to weigh it so I'm not sure exactly how much yarn it took.
All of the blocks I used for the blanket can be found here.

Wow, Linda, it's stunning! I would never guess that you were using up stash - it looks purposefully beautiful and the colours are really well balanced. Lucky daughter!
ReplyDeleteJust saw your previous post too - I had wondered what was up with the follower numbers. Should have guessed it was something to do with Blogger. (Bless them - I know we all complain about Blogger but I am very grateful for the free tools they provide so non-computer experts like me can blog.)
Hope you are having a great week. :)
Hi Linda, Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteYour blanket is gorgeous!! What patience :) Your daughter must be pretty pleased with it.
I do dream of joining CALs but I am not sure I will sustain till the end. Maybe I should join one this year just to bust my stash as Declutter is my word for 2016.
Have a lovely day.

Fabulous blanket, Linda, you should be very proud of it. A lovely gift for your daughter. I've enjoyed seeing the blocks as you have made them.
ReplyDeleteThat is a work of art. My daughter would love something like that.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful Linda. I check my layout the same way you do :). I love doing squares/blocks as it is a wonderful way to use up all the bits and pieces of yarn.
ReplyDeleteWow! An amazing finish and what an interesting blanket with all the different designs and textures. I dare not get tempted to start a CAL at the moment as this year I am concentrating on making blankets which I am donating to a care home for the elderly and I want to make 12 this year so must not get sidetracked. xx
ReplyDeleteIt's such a gorgeous blanket, Linda!

Your Moogly Blanket is a vision splendid, Linda....but then, all your crocheted/knitted woollies are. I love how you always combine lovely colour, pattern and texture into all your arrangements....sublime!!
ReplyDeleteWow!! Your blanket is so beautiful, Linda!!:) all the squares are lovely and the fact you made it from the left over yarns makes it even more impressive:)
ReplyDeleteIt is fantastic!!! I think that it needs a simple edge and join so that you can see the full beauty of each of the squares and all of them as a while! Wonderful! xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful blanket, you must be so proud of it. It's so unusual with all the different stitches and textures, different from so many other crochet blankets you see. Well done, I'm sure your daughter will treasure it.
