The Disappearance of Mr Swordtail

The Monday Smile

I hope that all you Mums who were celebrating Mothers Day this weekend had a fabulous day!

When it was mothers day here in the UK, my son treated me to some new tropical fish.
I have kept tropical fish for many years now and have enjoyed it on the whole however it does have it's downside, especially when things go wrong.

I chose the fish I wanted and asked the owner of the shop if it was wise to add fifteen new fish all at once, he reassured me and said given the size of my tank and the number of fish in there it would be fine.

The fish were added to the tank and for a few days everything was fine, until I realised that the fish seemed to be diminishing in quantity, I never found any dead fish in the tank they just seemed to disappear, obviously they were dying and the other fish were eating them.

Over the space of two weeks I lost thirteen fish and two of the remaining scissor tail fish had half of their tails chewed off. As you can imagine I was saddened and really angry with myself for being so silly as to put that many new fish in the tank in the first place. I lost most of the new ones but what saddened me most was the disappearance of Mr Swordtail.

I love swordtail's  and I could tell that Mr swordtail's wife was  very sad at his disappearance too, there was a certain lacklustre to the swish of her tail, the swordtail family had lived in my tank for nearly a year and had been happy healthy fish, I couldn't understand how he could just disappear like that.

It was at this point that Mrs swordtail began acting very strangely, she kept disappearing and hiding herself away, of course the penny dropped... she was pregnant! Under the circumstances I felt that it was only right that we carry on Mr Swordtail's legacy and I must say that it felt good to know that he had at least had his fun before going to fishy heaven.

Mrs Swordtail
So here we are, Mrs Swordtail delivered her babies sometime in the early hours of May 5th I'm hoping that many of them will survive, they are a week old on this photo.

I'm sure that Mr swordtail is looking down with a big smile on his face in the knowledge that his legacy lives on.

Mr Scissor tail in the background
I am also happy to announce that the scissor tails tails have almost grown back to normal...I didn't even know they could do that, so everything in the tank for now at least is rosy. :)

Sorry about these but it seemed appropriate

  • A vet goes to a ladies house to treat her pet dog. After treatment he admires her aquarium with six goldfish of different varieties in it.
The lady says, "yes they are lovely but I don't know what sex they are"
Vet "They are all females"
Lady "How do you know that?"
Vet "Because they all have their mouths opening and shutting continuously!"

  • A man walks into a fish and chip shop with a fish under his arm and says
"Do you serve fish cakes in here?"
The owner replies no
The man says "that's a shame it's his birthday today"

  • What's the difference between a fish and a piano? - You can't tuna fish!
  • What is the best way to communicate with a fish? - Drop it a line!

Have a great Week!

The monday smile

I hope you have all had a great weekend and all you mums had a fabulous  Mothers Day.  Mine was lovely it started with a thud on the mat when I went to look my daughter had posted a card through the letter  box on her way to work.  The most beautiful card and the sentiments made me cry so did this...

Aww so sweet.

My lovely son and daughter in law then took me to buy some tropical fish for my tank...much better than chocolates I think.  In the evening my daughter arrived after work laden with all sorts of lovely eats, this along with phone calls from my two sons who couldn't be there made it a perfect day for me. :)

Many of you have probably seen this before but I saw it on Facebook and thought it was hilarious hope you do too

This dog is not allowed on the bed, this is what he does when his owners are away.

Have a great week!

All you stashaholics it's the end of the month already please tot up your totals for the month if you are counting and look out for the new link party tomorrow. :)

The Monday Smile

Hope you all had a great weekend and your weather did what it was supposed to do for Spring.  We had rain, wind and hailstones such variety but I know it can't stay cold for much longer Spring is just a breath away just like the completion of my blanket! I am so pleased to say I am now down to......

The last 30!

I thought I would never get there but at last I can say after making 44 motifs and joining 75 last week I have only 30 more motifs to join onto the blanket. Then there will just be the border to do and the great big mood/never ending blanket can be revealed.  I'm planning a giveaway for all my followers to celebrate so stay tuned. :)

Now to keep you busy this week and get your week off to a smile, this is for those of you who want to learn how to knit. For those of you who can knit you may pick up some tips. :)

Well maybe not

Have a great week!

Q: When should you buy a bird?
A: When it’s going cheep!
Did you hear the one about the crow and the telephone pole?
He wanted to make a long distance caw.
Q: How does a bird with a broken wing manage to land safely?
A: With its sparrowchute.
Q: Why did the little bird get in trouble at school?
A: Because he was caught tweeting on a test.
Q: What do you give a sick bird?
A: Tweetment.

Mood Blanket Progress

I'm still making and joining and the blanket is getting bigger and bigger.

This week I made 58 motifs which means 44 more to make

And I joined 77 motifs to the blanket, which means more 105 more to join.

This week I am going to make the 44 motifs to bring the total to 105 first, so that I will have enough to complete the blanket then I can concentrate on joining them to the blanket, then I just have to do the border and it's done.

I'm now searching for suitable border patterns I want it to be simple quick and effective about two inches deep any idea's?

Have a great week

The Monday Smile

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly.' The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?' The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What’s the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that's red and has thorns.' 'Do you mean a rose?'
'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

Secret Shoebox Stash

I have a guilty secret...I love to collect shoes boxes, I can't bring myself to throw them away.  I don't see a shoe box, I see a handy little drawer where I can stash something inside.

From where I'm sitting now I can see seven shoes boxes all stacked up on top of one another hidden behind the door and each one has treasure hidden inside.

I might show you them all and even reveal their contents some day but for today you can see inside the one above with all my blanket motifs ready to be joined onto the blanket.

There are eighty motifs there and when there is just one left of a particular colour I will make three more so I have a continuous supply of each colour hidden in my secret shoe box that's hidden behind the door :)

Each Sunday I place my blanket on the bed just to see how much bigger it needs to be and every week I change my mind about the size. This week I'm thinking it doesn't need to be quite as big as I thought so I made more new calculations which knowing me, will probably change again next week.

This week I joined 80 motifs on to the blanket and I made 56 which means....

I need to join 182 more and make 102.... it's getting there :)

Have you got guilty secret what do you like to hoard other than yarn of course, please don't tell me I'm the only one.

Spring is nearly sprung and we had sunshine yesterday

A little crocus in my garden smiling in the sunshine.

Have a great week!
