Block a Week Friday

Block 165
Four Square

I enjoyed knitting this one, making the four little square's was fun, by decreasing in the centre you form a mitered square it's amazing how a a flat piece of work turns into a square if you would like to try it, there is a video how to here

I did think the sewing up would be a headache but it wasn't really and even though I sewed them the wrong way I still like the finished result. I think a blanket made up of little squares would look lovely, a great way to use up all your little bits of yarn.

One for me.

I actually finished this top a few weeks ago

crochet,mesh,top,ladies,easy

If you can remember I bought the yarn back here
It was really fun to make and the pattern was easy to follow but I'm not really sure what I think of it, I sort of like it but even though it's made with a cotton yarn it's Aran weight so it's too warm to wear it when the weather is hot and it's not warm enough when the weather is cold because of the short sleeves and the holes of course...

so I suppose the only option is to wear it when the weather is warmish and add a cardigan if it gets too cold...

I'm going to wear it today for the first time so it's on trial as it were. I think I should have made a larger size because it shows up my lumps and bumps. If I don't feel comfortable in it then it's going to be frogged.

I really don't know why I bother trying to make things for myself I never wear them.. perhaps I'm just too fussy what do you think would you wear it? be honest :)

You can find the pattern here

I think this is the first thing I've made thats not a stash-buster for months or could it be years? it seems strange not linking it to the stash link party, you have until Sunday evening to link your stash-busting makes to the Summer Stash Party do take a look at the lovely Summer projects you have all been making.

For those who are counting please leave me your totals and thank you to those who have already. :)

Hope you are all having a great week!

Block a Week Friday

Block 90
Diamonds

This block is made with an eight row pattern repeat, which means you really need to concentrate, that is until the penny drops, it usually takes me right to the last pattern repeat before I can say I've got it, the good news is I didn't need to pull it back once.
I like the finished result but I wouldn't have the patience to use this pattern on a large project.

Bubbles Baby Blanket

What is your most favourite thing to make? mine has got to be blankets and afghans, the problem is they can take a while to make...

preemie,baby,blanket,easy,crochet,free pattern

unless you make a baby blanket, making baby blankets gives you the opportunity to try out new patterns and stitches and because they don't take long you won't get bored with it and hide it away for months on end which I have a tendency to do with larger blankets..

and hopefully you will find one you really like which I have with this one, I have used this pattern many times.

It's easy, works up very quickly, has a beautiful textured finish, there's no obvious holes where a little one might trap their fingers and best of all you don't need an edging unless you want to of course.

I used variegated Dk baby wool for this little blanket which I bought from Aldi a while back, I wish I had bought more! it used 200  grams which was just enough to make  a preemie sized blanket measuring 24"x20".

You can find the pattern here the pattern uses two strands of yarn but I used only one strand for mine which I think is less bulky and more suitable for a frail preemie baby.

Block a Week Friday

Block 1
Speckle

The first block in the book, this is a fairisle block and the contrast yarn is carried along the back of the work.  Easy but a little bit fiddly and because there are three colours you end up with 22 ends which take forever to weave in.

The seven mile scarf and a giveaway or three!

The Childrens Hospice Association for Scotland (CHAS) have a scarf challenge going on right now they are inviting knitters and crocheters to make scarves that can be sewn together to make a seven mile long scarf, approximately 7511 scarves will be needed to make this happen.

easy, free pattern, stashbusting

This of course is a great opportunity to use up some of your stash yarn for a great cause.

The scarves need to be 1.5 metres long but can be any width you like.

I really enjoyed making this scarf, I used thick yarn and a 6 mm hook, I have no idea what yarn I have used other than it was Aran weight and I love the finished result, it only took a couple of evenings to make. You can find the free pattern for this lovely scarf here a great gift idea too. It took 166 grams of yarn.

The scarves are to be sold off individually to raise funds for the hospice.  If anyone would like to join in you can find all the details here, it's on going until the end of September.

Three great giveaways are happening right now!.

If you haven't done so already do pop along to Amanda,

and Sue's blogs to read all about them.
also
Linda from Chalky's World has just announced her giveaway today, do pop along and read all about it.

And finally have you seen the Summer stash-busting link party just lately it's a feast for the eyes, thank you all you lovely stash-busters for linking your beautiful makes.

The Summer Party will be on going until the end of August so you still have plenty of time to link up.

You can find out all about Stashbusting for Stashaholics here

Hope you are all having a great week!

Block a Week Friday.

Block 92
Chain Gang

Another slip stitch pattern which gives a fun effect. I do enjoy making the slip stitch blocks they are really easy to make and each one of them has turned out lovely so far. This one is a little bit longer than 6" but shouldn't be much of a problem when sewing into a blanket.
