Blanket Round Up Five

Yes can you believe it, the blanket round ups are still on going because I really love making blankets, and it's just as well because there is always a great need for them, from the tiniest preemie blanket to  bed sized blankets, Loving hands members have even made huge sized blankets for orphan elephants

This particular blanket is much smaller than that, it's just the right size for a lap blanket, but I have to be honest I love it so much I haven't had the heart to send it on yet.

Sometimes when I'm visiting my favourite blogs I come across something that I just have to make and this was one of those things.  The reason I liked it so much was because I was intrigued by the corner to corner join as you go method which was shown along with a great a tutorial on The Patchwork Heart. Can you imagine hardly any ends to sew in and no joining!

I then had to search through my scrap yarn and decided that this particular blanket  would be a great contender for the coned yarn that I have stashed up in my loft. As always throughout the making of a stash blanket you are never sure if you'll have enough yarn to complete it, luckily I had enough to make it to a decent size.

Coned yarn is usually 3 or 4 ply so I used three strands together which works out more or less as an Aran weight and wound it into lovely yarn cakes with my yarn winder. I'm sure I took a photo of that lovely yarn all ready to be used but if I did I can't find it anywhere.  It's always a great feeling when you get to the middle of one of those cones because they seem to be never ending.

Blanket Round Up Four

Just recently a CAL came to my attention for a blanket that was quite different to anything I had ever made before.  At the time I wasn't able to follow the CAL as it was happening because I was busy with other things.

Then I had to think about the yarn that I was going to use, the correct balance of colours was important to achieve the right effect. I wasn't going to buy any yarn, I wanted to use what I had already in my stash.  Luckily I had quite a lot left over from the Spicier life blanket,  I started to get quite excited about the prospect of starting this blanket but quite apprehensive too for two reasons the first being I wasn't sure whether or not I would be able to follow the pattern and secondly I wasn't sure if I had enough of all the colours to make the blanket as I had it pictured in my mind.

As far as following the pattern was concerned I needn't have worried at all, in fact it was one of the easiest blankets I have ever made, who would have thought that such a simple stitch could create such an intricate looking design.

The yarn was another issue however, I did run out of some of the colours which meant some of the sections aren't as wide as I would have liked them to be and the blanket is not as long, but I love it anyway it's just the right size to put over your knees on a cold winters night.

This was the Havana CAL Pattern  which unfortunately was only free for the duration of the CAL but the pattern is available to buy here on Ravelry

Some of the colour combinations I have seen are quite striking.  Another great thing about this blanket is the double border no weaving in of pesky ends as they are enclosed in the border.

Did anyone else make this blanket? I would love to see it if you did.๐Ÿ˜Š

Blanket Roundup Three

My passion for making blankets continues and over the past year or so I have made quite a few that I haven't had time to share with you, most of them have been sent on to various charities but every now and then you make a blanket that you just can't seem to part with and this is one...

I love the mixture of crochet stitches but most of all I love the colours which blend in nicely with my decor. I had so much fun making this blanket in fact I enjoyed every minute.

It's the Spicier life blanket I started making way back here , gosh doesn't the time fly! I followed the CAL and finished it quite quickly and have been using it ever since, it's soft and lovely to cuddle under in these cold evenings.

Stats...
Made with  special DK Stylecraft yarn with odd balls I had in my stash.
It took just 640 grams of yarn.  I had so much left over I was able to make another blanket which I will show you another time.
The Spicier Life Blanket pattern is still available and can be found here

Blanket Round Up Two

Last Summer back in June just before things got seriously manic for me I was donated  lots of coned yarn remember here and was looking for inspiration as to what to make with them, then I saw this Afghan designed by the lovely and very talented Olga from Lacy Crochet and knew I just had to make it.

I used three strands of coned yarn in each of the two shades and it used a very satisfying 850 grams.
It was a joy to make as rippled blankets always are and was completed in no time.

The finished dimensions were 48 x 38 inches.
It was donated to  Needles,Hooks,Angels and Preemies

You can find the pattern here

What are you all up to I hope that you are having a lovely week! we have beautiful sunshine I was beginning to forget what it looks like ๐Ÿ˜Š

Blanket Round Up 1

Although last year was a bit of a nightmare for me what with one thing and another, I still found time to crochet and as I've said before, it's kept me sane what would we do without it, I have lots of friends that don't do any handcrafts at all and that's fine everyone is different but I can't help but think that they are missing out.  Anyway last year was definitely the year of the blanket, I haven't counted how many I made but there are a few which I didn't share so I thought I would show you over the next few weeks, it may inspire you to make them too..
The first was the Last dance on the beach Blanket which I started way back here and I did manage to share a lot of the squares as I made them but not the finished blanket so here it is....

I managed to finish this just before Christmas and I gifted it to my son, I had it spread out on his bed when he arrived home.

He loved it and said it kept him cosy and warm. He's working in Qatar now so it's adorning his bed just waiting for him for when he has a holiday at home.  I really love this blanket and the way it turned out, I enjoyed making all of the squares and loved the fact that there is a video tutorial for each just in case you get stuck.

You can find the patterns for all of the squares and links to the video tutorials here.
