Are we Being Invaded?

I'm talking about spiders! I have never seen so many spiders as there are this year.  Usually spiders don't really bother me, I can pick them up in a tissue and gently release them outside, but these are no ordinary spiders they are huge!

I don't mean this sweet little chap I have only put him there for effect.  I am talking about these huge bodied creatures with long legs that are invading my home at the moment.

They say it's because the weather has been warmer and so the spiders have had plenty of prey and have therefore gotten larger, have you noticed more spiders in your home? do you love them or hate them? how do you get rid of them?

The only fear I have is of them getting into bed with me at night can you imagine it! ahhhhh

I hope they aren't taking over take a look at what I found in my garden just last week....

Now do you believe me!

Warning! make sure you pull your covers right back before you get into bed at night you never know what might lurk beneath :)

The crochet spider at the top was made using a pattern from the book Crochet Finger Puppets by Gina Alton.

Hoping you are all having a great spider free week!

  1. Good Morning Linda, Now, I would not mind waking up to the little crocheted spider on my bug, but certainly not the real thing. Although I don't like spiders, I have to say, I love spiders webs. I thought I had a lot in my garden, but you have so many. I loved the photograph of the hedge with what looked like delicate lace draping down the hedge..... so very beautiful.
Have a lovely day today.... I am keeping my eyes open for those pesky spiders.
    Best Wishes

  3. I get freaked out by spiders. I can't handle them at all. The tiny whispy ones maybe, but not all the others. Thank goodness I have my husband and my son to take care of them for me. :)

  5. Eek. I've seen the news reports about big spiders but haven't seen any more than usual in my garden. What I hate is accidentally walking through a web and having to wipe it off. Eugh!

  6. We rarely see spiders here although the gardens are right under my flat . I occasionally see Daddy Long legs ....but smallish in size. What you do see are cochroaches and big ones too ....jeez they disgust me. I have been lucky I rarely get them in the flat and I think it is because I fumigate the flat thoroughly at the beginning of spring. However this year because of the prolonged drought and heat there have been lots more in the streets.
Spiders are ok out in the garden and that is where they should stay!!! I must admit though their webs are beautiful and I love to see one covered in rain drops. Great pics Linda!!!

    keep well

  8. I've seen some whoppers this year in the garden and I fear that one was in the house yesterday, but it skedaddled before I had chance to get it, they are massive aren't they. I hate spiders because I am terrified of them and will scream if I see one, but I love their webs when they are covered in frost or dew! Not when they are inside though!! xx

  10. Love, love, love the webs that spiders weave. Give or take one or two, they are most friendly critters. Love your crochet spider.....perhaps you should place him in your garden to scare your spiders far away.

  11. Fortunately we don't have more spiders here than usual. I don't like them. The bigger the nastier!! 15-20 years ago one time it happened to me that I awoke with a spider next to me on my pillow, shock!! But I have to say that these spiderwebs outside in nature are fascinating sometimes, especially when they are full of dewdrops and the spider is not to see ;-). Fingers crossed that your spider invasion will stop soon! Greetings, Nata

  12. They must love you because they know you appreciate fiber, webs and their intricate detail.
Hugs and stay away from the big ones!

  13. Ha-ha! Meredith is a hoot! My goodness! Those spiders sure have been busy. Wow! Their webs are absolutely amazing. How do they have all of that stuff inside in their bodies to make such webbing? It is amazing! But the spiders themselves, yikes! Hope they move out soon. Best wishes, Tammy

  14. Amazing webs they are mesmerising when they are jewelled with dew!
Not sure about meeting their makers face to face!
We have a cheeky one that keeps popping out of a hole near the fire place and retreating when we approach!
I'm the chief spider remover in our house....
