Crochet, Embroidery and a Fall!

This week has gone past in a blur! so much to do and so little time..

I have been busy on the craft front and have managed to make another 24" square, it consists of four twelve inch squares, two of which I made last May for the Patchwork CAL.  This was another project of mine which never got completed, I had intended to make a full blanket but I found that it was difficult to get the squares the same size and there were so many ends to weave in I got fed up with it and only managed to make these two...

They are joined by two c2c squares which is my absolute favourite method of crochet at the moment it's so quick and easy.

Making these large squares for the Remember me with love blankets is a great way to make use of unfinished projects, I have found yet another batch of squares which I'm hoping to to use for this purpose too.😊

A remember me with love blanket is made up of six 24 inch squares making a blanket of  48"x72", these are then given to end of life patients and then handed over to relatives once the person has passed away.

I have completed that stitchery at last!

The Potting Shed

I have been working on this on and off since the beginning of the year, it's by no means perfect but I do like it now that it's finished which is a relief as I was falling out of love with it half way through. Mine looks nowhere near as good as the one in the magazine where I got the pattern from but I have come to the conclusion that it really doesn't matter, never strive for perfection and then you won't be disappointed.
This is the magazine ..

 On to other things....

I had a fall this week. thankfully it wasn't serious but it did hurt when I crashed to the floor after tripping over the door ledge, I was lay there for a good five minutes until I could actually move myself, I think it was because of the shock and the impact. I wasn't sure at first if I had broken anything but thankfully I hadn't.

Now why did I fall? because I'm always rushing too and fro with things on my mind, thinking about what I'm going to do next and then what I'm going to do after that. In this case I was thinking about my next crochet project and I had been into the garage to collect the yarn that I needed for it, at the same time I was thinking about whether I had enough fabric to make a pair of curtains for my bedroom with the fabric I made the pentagon bowl with below..

Picture the scene, I stride out of the garage with armfuls of yarn and fabric when I went to step into the house I couldn't see the door ledge because of all the stuff I was carrying and misjudged the height and over I went arms outstretched trying to break the fall, everything scattering to the floor, I crashed into a bamboo chair which shot across the floor crashing into another chair and it banged up against the wall, I lay stunned with all this mess around me.

Lesson to self, Slow down, carry small loads and think about what you are doing! I have told myself this many times but in the heat of the moment I forget.  I think as we get older we have to try to discipline ourselves to really think about what we are doing.

I always make sure that my stairs are always well lit and I say to myself take it slow and hold onto the banister, I have never fallen down the stairs however I have fallen up them, I didn't apply the same rule when I was going up as to when I was going down and so I tripped over the top stair and crash landed onto the landing a few weeks ago, luckily I missed crashing into the radiator and just landed on the carpet and although I was stunned I didn't hurt myself .  I have been lucky twice!

Please let it be a lesson to all of us who are getting on in years, it's so easy to fall and break a bone as we get older, be mindful.

As always thank you for all the lovely comments and suggestions I got from my last post I do appreciate them all and all your suggestions are always taken onboard.

What are your plans this weekend? It was my grandson Mikey's fourth birthday earlier in the week and so my DIL is planning a little party for him this weekend so I'm looking forward to that.😊

Leaving you with beautiful crocuses in full bloom in my front lawn..

Take care until next time. 😘😘

  1. Linda, I just love your squares, and your embroidery, and your crocuses! I don't love that you fell - but I like the little picture to demonstrate it! Yes, we must all take care, especially on the stairs. It's a 'fault' of we women that we try to do too much at once and I am especially guilty of trying to carry more than I'm equipped to lol. I'll see you on Thursday, when you and Mary can compare falls! xxx

  2. Sorry about your fall.I did exactly the same on our stairs soon after we moved in here.I was holding the hand rail but it finished short of the top of the stairs so as I got to the top I went flying and crashed into a bookcase.I didn’t break anything but had two enormous black eyes which took weeks to clear.
What is c2c in crochet terms? If it is quick that sounds good.

    1. Hi Barbara I'm sorry to hear about your fall and I'm glad it wasn't more serious but black eyes are bad enough. c2c is corner to corner and is really easy once you get the hang of it. If you google it there are lots of tutorials on YouTube.

  3. I'm glad there was no serious damage done when you fell but it does give you a shock, doesn't it. I've done that thing of falling up the stairs too, and I've broken and dislocated toes by rushing around and banging into furniture, it's so easy to hurt ourselves if we're not being careful. What a worthwhile cause the Remember Me With Love blankets are for, I'm sure they'll bring a lot of comfort to families after their loved ones have passed away. Enjoy Mikey's party this weekend, I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun, four is a good age.

  4. I'm so happy you weren't hurt from your fall Linda. I have done the same thing with running around in my house. I've fallen up and down the stairs many times. Yes, we do need to slow down. I love your embroidery and crochet work. Take care and have a nice weekend with the birthday boy.

  5. yes, my mum fell outside when she misjudged the little step and landed heavily on the concrete path. Couldn't get up but as it was outside the front door a neighbour saw her laying there. Still had to go for an xray on her head which she had cut. I think sometimes it happens when you lose concentration.

  7. Goodness me! Take care!
So sorry to read about your fall, thankfully no serious damage done.
It is so easy to trip/fall and yes, the older we get the more care and thought we should take.

One of our Grandsons also has birthday celebrations over the weekend ...
I'm sure you too will have a lovely time with your birthday boy.

    My good wishes.

    All the best Jan

  8. Such a wonderful idea for a blanket with leftover squares! I love your stitch work. We have to be very careful as we get older. A moment of misjudgement can cost us a lot. Falls have become a new normal to me with me health condition though luckily there are no stairs.

  9. I'm sorry to hear about your fall, Linda. Thank goodness you weren't seriously hurt. I suspect we have all been there in a flurry of multitasking and dashing about.
    Enjoy your weekend! X

  11. Oh dear, I hope you are okay, Linda. I so agree with you with what you say about doing things differently and with care as we get older. LOVE your The Potting Shed embroidery! I think you did a superb job. It looks fabulous displayed in the embroidery hoop. Love too, those two patterned squares together with the C2C squares; they are so pretty. Have a great time at your grandson's party. Goodness, Mikey is growing up. How pretty are those crocuses. It looks as if spring is beginning to bloom there.

  12. So sorry to hear about your fall. I am so glad you weren't injured. Having fractured my shoulder last May when I tripped over a raised sidewalk I am much more aware of my surroundings now where I walk. Getting older is not for the faint of heart. By the way, I love your embroidery and how you added simpler, but still pretty crocheted squares to the more annoying ones.

  13. I have also had my share of falls…I’m glad you were not hurt. A good reminder to be careful and carry less!
Your embroidery is lovely! Our crocuses have not made an appearance yet but our witch hazel bush is in bloom!

  14. Your crocheted squares are so pretty! Your Potting Shed embroidery project looks so pretty – just in time for Spring! Yikes! I’m so grateful you didn’t break anything when you fell! Thank you for your advice on slowing down…I’m learning that lesson as well. I’m sure you’ll enjoy Mikey’s birthday party and your beautiful crocuses every time you are in your front yard.

  17. Oh dear, I'm so sorry to read about your falls, please do slow down and take care. Falls can have terrible consequences as we get older, guess we all know that, but with our busy lives it just seems to be rush, rush. Before I had my spinal op last year I had several falls and it was rather frightening, luckily everything seems fine now. The Potting Shed stitchery looks great, well done. I'm certainly not a perfectionist either, but does that really matter? It's the pleasure and calmness we get from stitching which is important.

  18. I, too, am glad you were not hurt! I haven't fallen recently or even in the last six months. So when I was asked at my annual Medicare appt. I didn't have to fib. Take care. Maybe you can't slow your thoughts down, but at least carry less stuff, or put in a basket or container. I know, hush up, Judy!!!!

  19. Lovely squares, Linda. And I really like that Potting Shed stitch you finished. So glad you didn't get seriously hurt. I think of that often anymore. When I'm feeling good I tend to be kind of speedy too. But a fall at this point could be disastrous. Thanks for the words of warning.
