Advice Please.

I need a new camera, I'm ashamed to say that I have been using my phone's camera over the past year and it gives beautiful clear pictures but they aren't ideal, close ups are usually blurred and it heats up alarmingly.

The thing is I'm no photographer and I haven't got a clue about cameras and to be honest how to use them effectively.  I see such beautiful pictures on some of your blogs, how do you do it? and most importantly what type of camera do you use?

Anything complicated would be too much for my befuddled brain but any suggestions tips or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Leaving you with some phone camera shots of flowers from my garden.....

How can you tell that roses are my favourite flower. :)

Have a great day. xx

  1. I'm the last person to give advice - I'm just a point and shoot kind of girl! Saying that I've been pondering on getting a better camera for quite a while now. Good luck x

  2. I use a big Nikon DX for up close photos, it is a monster and I am sure you can buy much smaller and better ones than this one these days. I actually do not like my iPhone camera, I am never happy with the pictures I get with it.
Hugs to you and good luck,

  3. I would stick with your phone camera as you are taking lovely pics. I spent a lot of money on a good camera and to be truthfull unless you are into photography you are better off with the new phone cameras. they take such great pics and for the types of pics you are taking why not. I can't tell you when the last time was that I pulled out my camera.

  4. You got some great photos of your roses Linda! I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS, and I have a separate zoom lens (purchased separately too) for my wildlife shots. If you go into a good camera shop though and explain your situation, I'm sure they will set you up with something both adequate for your needs and also keeping in mind how much you want to spend. The Canon is nice, not too large, and you can use it as a point and shoot if you don't want to get into all the manual adjustments. There is a macro setting for those nice floral shots too. I've used my son's point and shoot a few times and found that it was so light weight that whenever I clicked the button for the shot I was moving the camera and getting blurry shots. My Canon doesn't do that, plus it has a "stabilizer" to reduce slight tremors of the hand. Good luck in your search!

  6. Hi Linda, I have two cameras that I use, both are made by Canon. The one I recommend to you is the Canon Powershot SX600HS. This camera is small and easy to carry around with you, not complicated and has a good zoom lens (18x) and we have got some creacking shots using it. Have a look at my blog to see the type of photos I have taken using it. It isn't the cheapest of these types of cameras but I think it is worth paying a little more to get the quality. Good luck with whatever you choose to go for, I look forward to seeing some of your photos. xx

  7. My camera is a Canon powershot, but I hardly use it these days. It does do brilliant close-ups though. For my blog I use my ipad camera - photography is not a strong point for me, I'm afraid. But you are doing a great job with your phone camera x

  8. Lovely photos Linda. I try to keep things simple, point and click. I don't use half the settings on my camera, perhaps I should try. My camera is a Panasonic Lumix. I don't know whether that's a good camera or not, but it works for me. I hope you find something that suits you, but your phone camera shots are impressive anyway.

  9. Well I think your photos are lovely. My camera is a Nikon D3100, and although I am not very technically minded, I do love it. My method is usually to take loads and loads of photos, and then thrown nearly all of them out.

  10. Beautiful flowers !!!!
I have a Canon power shot A2600 hd and I'm very pleased with it. It was 79 euros and very simple to use.
    Have a lovely week !

  12. I'm not really the right person to ask. Hubby passed his camera on to me when he bought a better one. But it has been exactly what I need. I don't know if it can still be bought, but it is a Casio Exilim. The main thing that appealed to me is that it is red. I'll never be a professional photographer!!
